Welcome!
We warmly welcome you to the
16th Congress of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ISECS),
the world’s largest meeting of specialists on all aspects of the eighteenth century which takes place every four years.
This year, the conference is organised by the Italian Society for Eighteenth Century Studies,
and hosted by Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
The Congress theme is Antiquity and the Shaping of the Future in the Age of Enlightenment,
which is perfectly in line with the spirit of a city, Rome, that embodies
the dialogue between Antiquity and Modernity in the 18th century.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Rome!
Marina Formica, President of the Italian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies

The Coordination Group of the ISECS 2023 Congress thanks all the colleagues who submitted individual and panel proposals for the quality and the variety of their contributions. We are confident that the Congress will be a scientifically most relevant event and the perfect opportunity for meeting colleagues in 18th-century studies and sharing ideas and research projects.
On the basis of the proposals received, the Coordination Group has been drawing up on the provisional programme, which will be made available on this site by March 15 at the latest. If necessary, the Group will get in touch with individual proposers and panel and roundtable convenors before that.
